Yvonne K. Curry

Yvonne Katherine Ava Curry was born on April 18, 1958 at Jacobi Hospital in Bronx, NY, to the late Louise Hughes-Curry and John Curry. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Oliver (as she remembered), Arthur Curry, John Curry, and Anthony Curry. Her sunset was on October 9, 2024, with her daughter faithfully by her side as she gained her wings. Yvonne took pride in her Bronx, NY Soundview Projects upbringing and attended the public schools, graduating with her GED from Harry S. Truman High School. 

Yvonne Katherine Ava Curry, "Extra Delicious" as she called herself, was preceded in death by her first and forever love, Donald Lee Smith, who selflessly called her children his own and treated them as such. Yvonne was known for her loving, protecting, and giving spirit. If she saw a need, she would try to fill it. She gave her all and all, unconditionally. She would rescue children off the street and give them a home and loved them like they were her own. She was a protector and a God-fearing woman who followed her faith in good works with God on her mind. In later years, Yvonne worked diligently with prison families at the NEST program in Troy, NY.

Yvonne gained a love for creative works while completing 2 rehab programs in the 90s. She loved crocheting and making things you would not have even thought of, like "boo-boo" sacks for the kids that would provide comfort for them when they hurt themselves. She crocheted blankets, slippers, scarves, hats, and anything she could think of that would meet her family's needs. Everyone knew that when there was a new birth coming, they would be receiving all kinds of crochet items to welcome the new bundle of joy. She even made beautiful memory books with crochet covering for her family.

Yvonne was a pillar of strength and a warrior, as she endured much in her lifetime. Her trials and tribulations could not steal her joy and strength, and her children gleaned from her strength and her ability to continue to press towards the mark. Family meant everything to her; her children and grands were her world. She was a lover of music and passed the love of music to her children; The Drifters, The Manhattans, Black Ivory, The Temptations, Melvin and the Blue Notes…the list could go on and on with her favorite being Jazzy Lee.

She leaves to mourn her loving and devoted children: 1 daughter, Andrea Curry; 2 sons, Lionel Curry and Lance Curry (Gwen); 6 grandchildren, Daryl, Danielle, Mojavye, Ja'hi, and Nicholas; 3 great grandchildren, Dior, Serentiy, and Lilandra; 2 devoted cousins, Marguerite Weldon and Rhonda Cabness; 2 devoted nieces, Eva McCall (Jimmie) and Rosslyn Hoston (Aaron); 2 devoted nephews, Ronald Petty and Craig Curry; and a host of other family and friends.
