Willie George Buchanon
Sunrise: December 16, 1946 ~ Sunset: April 4, 2021
WILLIE GEORGE BUCHANON was born on December 16, 1946 in Eclectic, Alabama to the late Siguard and Mary Alice Buchanon. As a child Willie received his education in the Elmore County Public School System. In the 1960’s he, along with his family, relocated to Albany, New York and Willie later earned his General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
Willie was employed by the Adirondack Steel Company in Watervliet, New York until his health forced him to take disability retirement, but he didn’t let that slow him down. He gladly provided door-to-door service for his daughter, LaTrenda, when she started working in downtown Albany because she didn’t have a parking space. Willie loved his children dearly, but his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren were his heart. He delighted in doing drop-offs and pick-ups for them at their schools or other activities, and truth be told, the kids enjoyed those times as much as he did – especially when the ride included a trip to the corner store for a treat.
Since Willie and his sister, Christine (aka Chrissy) were the last two living siblings, they would talk every day. It wasn’t uncommon for them to sometimes talk two or three times a day.
He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed both of these activities thoroughly. He even taught his “baby girl” LaWanda (aka Bunchie) how to shoot a gun at the tender age of 8. For those who knew Willie, you knew he loved his cars. Two cars that he had a great love for were his gold Monte Carlo and his Cadillac Brougham.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Jimmy, Tommy, and Charles, and one sister, Emma Jean.
In the early evening on Resurrection Sunday, April 4, 2021, at his daughter LaTrenda’s home, Willie slipped quietly away.
Celebrating his life, legacy and love are his devoted children, Myron, LaTrenda, LaWanda (Bunchie) and Aaron; one sister, Christine Buchanon; one aunt, Mary Ruth Brown; 14 grandchildren, ShaToya, Lynne, Myron Jr., Khalid, Ah’Keilah (Dauvi), Kaisan, Myrie, Emmanuel, Jalen, Jabari, Kaheila, Donovan, Landon, Nacier; seven great-grandchildren, Caleb, Ahmir, Jeremiah, Madison, Sha, Alexander and Aidan; good friends, John Standfield and Clifford (Puddin) Brown; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain,
for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation 21:4 (NIV)
