Ophelia (Ford) Pearson
Ophelia Pearson, 82 passed away on November 12, 2020 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Ophelia was born on January 3, 1938.
Ophelia Pearson was born in Rocky Point, NC. Ophelia completed her education in the Pender County School District. She then moved to Albany, New York where she found work in the domestic field then went to work at Albany Medical Center Hospital and retired from the VA Medical Center after 30 years.
Ophelia has been a member of Sojourner Truth A.M.E Zion Church for many years. She is a member of the Usher Board, Treasurer of the Ministry of Kindness, and a lifetime member of the A.M.E Zion Church Connectional Layman Council. She sings in the choir with voices of Truth and is a past member of the Flowers of Faith and she is member of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society.
Ophelia is always there to lend a helping hand to the mothers of the church by visiting them at the nursing homes, taking them to doctors’ appointments, or whatever she can do.
Ophelia is the fourth sibling of the late Harry Sr., and Hattie Ford, and was the only survivor of her five siblings, the late William, Harry Jr., Lester (Jay), Josie and Joseph. Ophelia has been married to O.D. Pearson for over 60 years, she had three children, her only son Leon (Audrey) Ford predeceased her in death, two daughters Marionette Johnson (Christopher Johnson, former husband) and Ruby L. Salmond (Thaddis).Ophelia has four grandchildren: Tamieka N. Johnson,Deeona L. Ford (fiancée Marcus Johnson) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Leon Ford (fiancé Veryleen Vanwert) Thaisa L. Salmond, she also has five step-grandchildren’s Neenah Bland (Ricardo), Nerissa Roberts (Fred), Neeco Piper (Raheen), Naetonya and Naetwone Croley.Ophelia has 12 great grandchildren, JaNai McAdoo,Deaunte’, Tykeerein, Dquayveon, Zamari, Zylee and K’Leon, Kylier, Le’Kye, lyanna, Lynea and Gizelle Lewis and one great-great grandson Deylin Ford as well as other extended great-great grandchildren.
Ophelia also leave to cherish her memory several nieces nephews, cousins and a special sister friend Ollie Mae Leggett.Beside her love for God and her church family, she loved her family very much.
Ophelia thanks God for having brought her this far in her life, for when she is going through difficult situations, she would raise her hands and say, the Lord is my strength and salvation.“Thank you, Lord,” for your blessing.
