In the morning of Sunday, February 25, 2024, SHIRLEY ANN BRUTON peacefully transitioned into eternal life surrounded by her loving son and daughter, Elgin and Melanie Henderson. Shirley was born November 28, 1946, to the late Annie Mae Bolkum and George Ziegler. The family moved from Wetumpka, Alabama to Albany, New York in the early 1960’s where they joined the fellowship of the Sweet Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend William Roland. After graduating from Philip Schuyler High School, Shirley was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal for many years. She later transferred into the medical field and was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant until her retirement. Shirley was predeceased by her daughter Hope Henderson, her siblings, Vivian, Alice, Herman and Sam Smith, Wallace and Willis Bruton and her grandson, Khaleid Henderson.
Celebrating her life, love and legacy is her brother Bennie (Gladys) Smith; her children Elgin, Bennie (Tonya) and Melanie Henderson. Her four grandchildren, Tiarra McMillan, Brianna, Javon and Jayden Henderson. Her great granddaughter, Tianna Mosquera, her honorary daughter, Dr. Brenda Robinson and her best friend Ruth Watson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
