Jalisa A. McCottry’s Obituary
Jalisa was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 14, 1989, the oldest child of Lisa and Darnell McCottry. Educated in the public schools of Schenectady New York, she concluded and earned her bachelor's degree in computer science at Russell Sage College.
Despite being plagued with Rheumatoid Arthritis and several chronic illnesses, Jalisa was also a very talented and a creative artist with her realistic drawings. She participated in arts shows and she was made an offer to buy her art, but refused because she did not do it for the money, but for the love of art. She also made clothes for herself, her mother and sister, as well as homemade soaps, deodorants and jewelry.
After twenty–plus years living in Schenectady, Jalisa passed away in her home in the middle of the night from Respiratory Failure due to Bronchial Asthma. Her sister who assisted her as an aide was with her during her passing, and she also tried CPR to save her life until the ambulance arrived. She was pronounced deceased at 11:08 pm on September 3, 2023.
She leaves to mourn in her passing mother, Lisa McCottry; sister, Jessica McCottry; half-brothers, Josiah and Justin McCottry; stepsister, Jessica Velasquez; grandfather, John Q. Harris; uncle, Eric Harris; 2 cats, Hermione and Celeste; and a host of family and friends.
