Elsie Bernice Cavanaugh Alexander was born February 15, 1937, in Baltimore, MD to the late Rebecca and Roosevelt Cavanaugh. She was the sixth child born after Roosevelt, Darnell, Robert, Curtis and Hattie. She gained her heavenly wings on January 20, 2022, while surrounded by loved ones.
Elsie began her career at Albany Medical Center before becoming a Senior Identification Clerk at NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). Elsie retired from DCJS in June 1996 after working 47 years with NYS and returned to Albany Medical Center as a staff member in the Emergency Department until she retired in 2005. She also worked in Albany County as an Election Inspector for many years.
Elsie had a profound love for music and loved to dance. Elsie also enjoyed bowling and was a member of numerous leagues for over 40 years.
Elsie’s legacy will be forever cherished by her sister – Hattie Johnson; her children – Fuzzy (Debbra), Lorraine (Christopher), Valerie (LeGrande), Dina (David), Dougie and Betty Ann; special sons – Ronald Swinarski, Henry Wilkins and Lancer Taylor; sister-in-law – Emily Phifer; brother-in-law Richard Alexander (Ruth); godchildren: Lance Knowles and Richard Kent; 33 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren and a host of many special adopted children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.
CDC REGULATIONS WILL BE FOLLOWED. EVERYONE WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES.
