Our father, Luke Powell Jr., was born August 25, 1966, in Brooklyn, NY, to Luke Powell Sr. and Barbara Williams at Coney Island Hospital. He spent his childhood growing up in Brooklyn. He graduated from George Wingate High School in 1983. In 1989, he relocated to Troy, NY where he met his then wife, Evelyn Davis and had two children.
Luke had a love for martial arts, collecting comic books, drawing comic stories, gaming, cooking, music and studying the word of God. He was always full of so much life, he lit up every room he walked in. His smile warmed hearts and his laugh was infectious. The name Luke means “light-giving” and that’s what he did…he gave his light to every person he knew and loved. As a father of five, he spent his time playing games with his kids and teaching them to use the family Kung-Fu. He could rap for ten minutes straight, freestyling. He was a self-proclaimed master chef and gave his kids lessons on how to become the Master Chef themselves. He would often reflect on his childhood with his kids telling them stories about growing up in Brooklyn. He spent time building a city of toys with his grandson and teaching him how to draw comics. Luke loved lots of things but above all he loved his family…his children and grandson.
His creativity with writing, storytelling, music making and cooking skills were passed down to his children and through them his legacy will continue on forever. Luke was predeceased by beloved his father Luke Powell Sr. and his sister Monique Powell.
Luke is survived by his mother Barbara Williams. His siblings Eric Simmons, Darnell Powell and Kalima Simmons. His beloved children, Luke Powell and Devon Powell (Evelyn), Fatima Powell (Priscilla), Corbin Galloway and Jazmin Galloway (Leola). His cherished grandson, Tristan Stafford. He is also survived by many other loving family members.
Luke’s famous phrases: “I'm the Brooklyn assassin”, “Kamanbo!” “Message!”, and lastly “Don’t say no to the blessing”.
May our most cherished father, Luke Powell live on in our hearts forever and may his light continue shine through us so that we may pass it on to the generations to come.
