It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved James "Jimmy" Rivers, who peacefully entered eternal rest on December 8, 2023, in Troy, NY. Surrounded by his loved ones, Jimmy's spirit found solace after a life well-lived.
Born on October 4, 1946, in Charleston, South Carolina, James was the son of the late Dorothy Pinckney and Ezekiel Rivers, Sr. He found his way to Troy, NY, where he was lovingly cared for by his Aunt "Ms. Casey." In May 1966, he embarked on a fulfilling career in the Army, dedicating close to 20 years in service to our country. Following his retirement, he relocated to Ozark, Alabama, where he worked for the Post Office.
James’ generosity and caring nature were evident to all who knew him. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His heart held a special place for Indianapolis, IN, where he would reunite with his lifelong military comrades during the Circle City Classic, a cherished tradition he considered his "safe haven." He was also a proud member of the "Panthers Club," where he formed lifelong friendships that provided unwavering support throughout his life.
After his adventures, James returned to Troy, where he resided until his passing. He found joy in watching Western TV shows, sports, and spending quality time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He cherished these moments and also valued his solitude.
James leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his children, Dawn Rivers (Troy, NY), Noshuo Rivers (Oxon Hill, MD), James Taylor (Lawton , Oklahoma), Marcellus Rivers (Dallas, TX) and Jonathan (Erica) Rivers (Columbus, GA). He will forever be remembered by his grandchildren Khalill Phelps, Tyreece Rivers, Marcellus Rivers II, DaJohna Rivers, James Taylor II, Jalen Taylor, Sariah Forshee Kingston Rivers, Ezra "EJ" Rivers,
Adah Rivers, and Titus Rivers. Great Granddaughters Alani Rivers and Rylee Phelps. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings Ronnie Rivers, Florence Rivers-Jenkins, and Carolyn Manigault. He was predeceased by his brothers Alan Rivers and Ezekiel Rivers, Jr.
