Louis A. Willis, Sr

Louis Willis Sr., 87, of Saratoga County, passed away on February 28, 2026.

Louis Willis Sr. was a man of strength, humor, service, and deep love for his family. Born January 24th, 1939, in Martin Town, Grenada, Mississippi, Louis came from humble beginnings and a generation that understood hard work, endurance, and faith. He was the son of Lorraine Graham and Byrd Willis.

As a young man, Louis attended Grenada Colored High School, graduating with the Class of 1957. Not long after, in 1958, he made his way to Albany, New York, ready to build a better future and create a life filled with opportunity.

Louis’ life journey was one of determination and purpose. After arriving in Albany, he worked hard to establish himself and eventually entered public service. He served as a police officer with the Albany Police Department and later continued helping others through his work in social services as a private investigator. His career reflected the kind of man he was: dependable, caring, and committed to making a difference.

Louis was first married to Sara Willis, his beloved wife from 1960 until her passing in 2010. Later in life, he found love again with Yvonne Mims, who became his wife and remained by his side until his passing.
More than anything, Louis loved his family. He was a proud father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort to those around him. He was known as a passionate man who deeply loved his family, and he was someone people could count on. If you needed him, he would be there.

Louis also knew how to enjoy life. He loved trying his luck at the casino, eating out at restaurants, and spending time with his family and friends. His granddaughter remembered him as a jokester who would not hesitate to break out into a dance and get everyone laughing.

Louis is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Mims; his children, Eric Willis, Louis Willis, Gregg Swan, Lamar Roulette, Andrew Willis, and Baron Roulette; his brothers, Sam Willis and Rayford Willis; his sister, Louise Willis; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Willis; his mother, Lorraine Graham; his father, Byrd Willis; his son, Curtis Willis; and his brother, Edward Willis.
