Ms. Jerrie Mae Johnson
1931 Her Journey 2021
Jerrie Mae Johnson was born on March 5, 1931 in Hoke County. NC, to the late Thomas Lee and Maggie Lee Allen. She transitioned from this life and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at her home in Albany, NY.
She received her education in Hoke County and graduated from Upchurch High School. After graduation she entered into the work force and later relocated to Albany, NY where she was an employee of the City of Albany as a Crossing Guard for 30 years, as well as others jobs within the City government.
Jerrie accepted her Lord and Savior as a young girl as a member of Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Red Spring, NC. Continuing her religious experience after relocating to Albany, NY she became a member of Mount Olive Southern Missionary Baptist Church in 1968, where she remained an active member.
Additionally, she served on the Adam “Doc” Willingham Ushers and Nurses Ministry, where she was honored twice to receive the “Queen of the Empire Ushers and Nurses Auxiliary,” award.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew T. Johnson; her parents, Thomas and Maggie Allen; three brothers, Thomas McBride, Robert Allen, and Bobby Allen, and her grandson Kevin Rozier.
Also, she leaves to cherish her memories, her sister Anne Bell of Raeford, NC, and her brother Ralph Allen (Mary) of Raeford, NC; her children; Barbara Rozier of St. Paul, NC; Geraldine Cromartie of Fayetteville, NC; Mary King (Memphis) of Fayetteville, NC; Alonzo Johnson of Albany, NY; Terry Johnson (Sonia) of McDonough, GA; Larry Johnson (Deena) of Fredericksburg, VA; and, Gloria Johnson of Albany, NY; 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren; a God-Daughter LaWanda Buchanan; and, a host of relatives and friends.
Jerrie will be missed dearly by her devoted family and friends—but is now at peace with her Creator!
