On January 18, 1942, in Benham, KY, a beautiful precious diamond baby girl, Jeanetta Louise Welch Ford was given to us. She would capture the love of family and friends through her gentle spirit, respect for people and love which emanated from her heart. Jeanettea graduated from Kimble High School for Girls in Welch, WV and upon graduation in 1959, she moved to Manhattan, NY. After moving to Brooklyn, NY, she worked as a supervisor at Greenwald Industries for 28 years. From there she worked for the City of NY in HRA as an Eligibility Specialist retiring as a supervisor in 2006. Jeanettea was a woman of many interests. She loved plays, cooking, travelling and fundraising for charitable causes. She loved her church and church family. She joined the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY in 1965, where she held several positions including: President of both the Senior Saints Committee and Senior Usher Board, Supervisor of the Youth Ushers Association, and a member of the state run Ushers Association, the Progressive National Convention, the Kitchen Committee and D.W. Batts Chorus. Jeanettea’s Masonic life began with her membership in the Tyree Grand Lodge and Sojourner Truth Grand Chapter and Order of Eastern Stars & Co., Scottish Rite Affiliation, in Bronx, NY. She held every degree in the Masonic order, up to and including Worthy Matron and Grand Matron (OES), Exalted Degree of Honored Lady (Order of Amaranth), Queen of the South, Secretary and Worthy Heroine (Grand Court Heroines of Jericho) and Mary Court #10, Daughters of Sphinx and a member of the Supreme Grand Chapter (OES) and the Supreme Charity Committee. On Friday, November 6, 2020, Jeanettea Louise was called home to the Lord after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her parents, Henrietta (Dozier) and Josiah Welch, her brother Fred Lee Welch and her sons Mark Ford and Preston Ford. She leaves to cherish her memory her son: Austin Smith, Brooklyn, NY; devoted daughter: Vonda Ford, Albany, NY; granddaughter: Erica Myers, Harlem, NY; grandsons: Zami Ford and Sean Myers; great granddaughter, Kiara; great grandson Kamauri and great great grandson, Liam; aunt Janelle Edwards; brothers: James (Glendora) Welch, Buffalo, NY and Julius Welch, Troy, NY; sisters: Marilyn (Gary) Bradley, Troy, NY and Vernita McCormick, Edgewater Pk, NJ. Godchildren: Benjamin and Mark Loadholt, Sandra Mercer and Eloise Edwards of Brooklyn, NY and a host of nieces, grandnieces, nephew, grandephews, cousins and many friends.
