James H. Vanterpool was born on May 16, 1978, to Ellen Vanterpool and Henry Jones. From an early age, James showed curiosity and skill; at just five years old, he began fixing small appliances around the house.
James attended Morris High School in the Bronx, where he discovered his passion for automotive work. After relocating to Albany, he continued his studies at the EOC, further developing his skills in automotive repair. His talent for cars was unmatched — James could take a car apart and put it back together with ease, a gift he cherished throughout his life.
Beyond his love for cars, James dedicated himself to helping others. He worked at the Code Blue Shelter, offering support to those in need, and later at Saratoga Hospital, where his humor and kindness brightened the days of patients and staff alike. James often said he loved helping people because he wanted to see them get back on their feet.
Known as a gentle giant, James was full of love, laughter, and generosity. His presence brought joy to everyone around him.
James is survived by his cherished daughters Sa’Laja and Jameah Vanterpool; his sisters Sharece, Felicia, and Nicole; his brother Derrick; his cousins Keny, Juante, and Errienessa; his uncle Joseph; nephews Kerry, Preston, and Sincere; nieces Nataya, Dawayne, Madison, Chelsea, and Avianna; and many other family members and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Above all, James’s greatest joy in life was being a father to Sa’Laja and Jameah, who were the pride of his heart and the light of his life.
