Gary Sherman Bethune was born January 24, 1943, to the late Sherman and Catherine Bethune, and transitioned peacefully on June 14, 2021 at St. Peters Hospital.
Gary was proceeded in death by wife Katric, son Guy, Siblings Bobby, Laura, Denise, Larraine, Eric, and Ronnie. Gary a graduate of Albany High School and SUNY Vocational Allied Education Program, Gary was a highly accomplished Orthotist- Prosthetist Technician at Albany Stratton VA Medical Center Albany, NY, and a Surgical Technician at St. Peter’s Hospital. Gary will be remembered for his generosity and kindness to family, friends, and co-workers at the Veterans (VA) Hospital, and St. Peter’s Hospital Affectionately called Dooley by friends. Gary was both popular and admired by so many diverse individuals. He truly made an impact by helping everyone in the family and friends by being a great man.
Gary loved nice cars, nice clothes, a clean home, boxing, and his siblings children- his beloved nephews Andre and Sean, Nieces Markedia, Mallissa, Connie, Amena, Nicole, and extended Bethune family. In Gary’s younger days, you would find him with a duby cap, brown liquor, and good music. The “good old-days”.
Most of all, his Grandchildren were his pride and joy. The grandchildren were his opportunity to have a “do-over” as a parent to Guy and Audrey. The grandchildren will carry-on Gary’s good character, integrity, peacefulness, and hard work ethics. As a result, the Bethune name will have a lasting legacy because of Gary.
