Elder James Otis Johnson (85), born November 14, 1940, in Okolona, Mississippi; to the late Vernice Chandler and Otis Johnson. Elder Johnson departed this life Wednesday, February 25,2026, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
He received his early education in the Albany City School District and continued his education in the medical field.
He was employed at Albany Medical Center Hospital for many years; And as a private Duty Nurse for Mr.& Mrs. Barnetts. Finally, he was employed at the Stratton Veteran Administration Hospital were he retired.
Elder Johnson accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the tender age of 7. He fellowshipped with several area churches in the Capital District. He fellowshipped at New Church of Christ where he accepted his calling under the leadership of Evangelist Joseph Brown. And later started his ministry at The Apostolic Gospel Church at Albany where he pastored for 20 years.
Elder Johnson was predeceased by his parents the late Vernice Chandler and Otis Johnson, his first wife, Dorothy L. Johnson, his children, Gwen McCall, Clay D. Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Sisters Bobbi and Thelma (Love) Johnson, and Charles Bowman. Special and beloved Aunt Pauline (Honey) Lewis and Uncle Alex Chandler.
He leaves to mourn his devoted and loving wife, Sister Paula Johnson, of 42 years, his children: Diane Williams, Robin Robertson, James O. (Jimmy) Johnson, Bernadette Elam and Karen Louden all of Albany, NY and Faith (Donald) Hatchett of Sacramento, California. One aunt Mattie White, Siblings; Lois Parson, Callie McGee, Herman Johnson, Willie Johnson, Louise Black, Mary Johnson of California; Otis Johnson, Linda Flood, Larry Bowman of Georgia and Harry Bowman of Florida.
And a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
