Dr. Elvis Rickey Stewart, Sr. PhD
Elvis Rickey Stewart, Sr. American Poet, Author, Artist, and Philosopher age 62, of Menands, passed away March 6, 2021, in his home after a brief illness. Rickey was born on August 12, 1958 in Brooklyn. He attended Schuyler High School where he excelled in art. He went on to attend Southern University of New York for visual art. He was recently awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy by The University System of Georgia. He moved to Kentucky where he met his wife, Caroletha Chestnut. Their union produced three children, Simone, Elvis, Jr., and Malachi. Some time after the reconsideration of their union, Rickey moved to Anchorage, Alaska where he enjoyed painting, exploring the outdoors and fishing in the Bering Sea.
After his return to Albany from Alaska, he met his former partner and longtime friend, Adrienne Carmel Bishop. He created many oil paintings from a folk perspective or the observation of nature, such as Tea, The Garden and more. He also loved to paint, write, sew, play his lyre harp and trumpet.
He was proceeded in death by his son, Malachi, his parents, Elmer Casey Stewart of Brooklyn, Ellen Octavia Buchanan Stewart Springsteen of Albany, and Ralph B. Springsteen of Albany; two grandchildren, Jerome Williams, III and Jamari Na’aim Osborne; one brother Samuel Springsteen.
Rickey is survived by two children, Simone Stewart and Elvis Stewart, Jr; two grandchildren, Aiyana and Raijxannax Stewart; sisters Regina Springsteen and Ellen Springsteen, both of Albany; brother, Rex Stewart, Ronald Stewart, Reginald Stewart, David Springsteen all of Albany and Daniel Springsteen of Schenectady. Special nieces and nephews, Evelyn, Marina, Sam Jr, Shi-aira, Ronnie, Jr, David, Jr, Sharay, Paris, Barkim, Raheem, Shanisha, Deshawn, Jamez, Freedom, Devonta, Veronica, Joab, Jade, Davaisha, Monaisha Danaisha and Si’eiare. A host of other family and friends.
