Desmond E. Cunningham

Desmond Cunningham Passed peacefully on January 9, 2026, at Albany Medical Center.

Desmond was born and educated in Albany, New York. He was a dedicated sign language interpreter and held certifications in forklift operation and electrical work. He also completed the drug counselor program and served as a respite worker for Joseph’s House in Troy, NY.

Desmond loved the Word of God and lived a life rooted in service to others. His greatest joys included listening to old-school music, spending time with his grandchildren, bodybuilding, and rescuing animals. He was always willing to help anyone in need, whether by offering a few dollars, clothing, or simply his time. His warm smile and contagious laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Desmond is survived by his children, Desmonio Cunningham and Mahogany Degroff (Cunningham); his siblings, Sylvia, Anthony, Lester, and Robert Cunningham; and his lifelong special family member and friend, Dinah Richburg. He was predeceased by his parents, Hester and Denzel Cunningham, and his siblings, Charles Daniels, Sheila Cunningham, and Penny Cunningham. He also leaves behind a host of loving family members and friends.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at Albany Medical Center and to Garland Bros. Funeral Home for their care and compassion.
