Denzil Bennett Obituary

(Services will be live on Garland Brothers Funeral Home Of Albany Facebook Page 11am)

Denzil Bennett, lovingly known as “D,” was born on April 24, 1967, in Wolverhampton, England, to Esther Chamberlain and the late Ripton Bennett.

In England, he attended Oxley Primary School, where his early love for people and humor began to shine. At the age of nine, Denzil moved to the United States and continued his education at Bible Baptist Christian School in the Bronx, NY. He later graduated from Yonkers High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and deepened his connection to faith, family, and community.

As a young adult, he moved to Upstate New York and attended Hudson Valley Community College, always striving to better himself and expand his opportunities.

Though a true New Yorker at heart, Denzil’s spirit knew no bounds. He traveled often to Florida, where his beloved mother resides, and where he visited his sister Francesca Davenport, her husband Joe, and their son Julius—creating memories rooted in love and laughter. He also made frequent trips to Jamaica, embracing his roots, enjoying the culture, and finding deep connection to the island that always felt like his second home.

Denzil passed suddenly but peacefully on June 29, 2025, surrounded by his children.

He is survived by his devoted mother, Esther Chamberlain; his children, Byron Bennett, Daeron Bennett, and stepdaughter Rachelle Durr; his son-in-law, Chuck; and his beloved granddaughters, Hannah and Rayana, who brought light to his every day.

He also leaves behind his sister Francesca Davenport, brother-in-law Joe Davenport, and nephew Julius Davenport.

Denzil’s family circle was ever-growing. He shared a special bond with Alyssa, Byron’s girlfriend, and Alesia, Daeron’s fiancée—both of whom he welcomed with open arms and genuine love. He also held a cherished place in his heart for Althea Watson, the devoted mother of his children, with whom he shared many years of love, growth, and parenting.

Denzil had a rare gift for making others laugh and feel at home. He found deep friendship and belonging at The Funny Bone, a place and a group that became like a second family. With them, he shared countless stories, unforgettable laughter, and a bond rooted in joy.

To know Denzil was to be loved like family. He will be remembered for his generosity, his humor, and his unwavering devotion to those he held close. His legacy lives on in every smile, every story, and every heart he touched.
