Deborah Katherine Allen-Rambus, born on February 24, 1949, in Albany, New York, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, in Troy, New York.
A native of Albany, Deborah lived a life defined by grace and resilience. She attended elementary school in Albany before relocating to Schenectady, where she graduated from Linton High School.
Following her education, Deborah dedicated her life to caregiving until her retirement. Her compassion and kindness extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions. A devoted member of her church, she expressed her faith through music as the lead singer in the choir and often stayed after services to give back to the community.
Deborah was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and the cornerstone of her family. She is survived by her siblings: Helen Abdul-Hamid, Patricia Thomas (Eddie), James Allen, Darren Allen (Renee), Robert Allen, Sharmaine Allen, and Christopher Dixon; her children: Dante Surgick (DeNeane), Stacey Surgick-Smalls (Jamel), MonaLisa Surgick, and her godson Jeffery Nunnally (Tasha); her grandchildren: Lamar Gamble, MonAsia Surgick, Eric Gamble, Quashon Surgick, MyEisha McGill, Davonte McGill, Mac-Quawn Surgick, Niyessa Surgick, Pashaye Majette, Shakeim Carter, and Deborah Carter; as well as fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her mother Virginia B. Allen; her sister Virginia Bullock; her ex-husband Alexander Surgick; her husband Gene Rambus; and her grandchildren Mariah Surgick and Jante Surgick.
Deborah’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Her life and legacy will continue to inspire those she touched with her love and generosity.
