Deaconess Velma Miller

Velma Cook Miller - Having celebrated her 96th birthday on September 23, 2024, Deaconess Velma Miller was called to rest on October 9, 2024. She was the youngest child of Eddie Mae Howard Cook and Curtis Cook. Velma was born and raised in Melvin, Alabama and educated in the Birmingham, Alabama City School District. 

On September 2, 1944, Velma Cook was joined in holy matrimony to Joseph Miller, Jr. whom she lovingly called “Joe”. To this union, they were blessed with six children. She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters: Arndreia M. Goodbee (Lee), Shirley A. Foskey, Brenda J. Strickland, Joanne Miller, daughter-in-law, Lena M. Miller, in addition to 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. 

Velma joins her parents, brother, Albert Lee Cook, husband, Joseph Miller, Jr., two children; George R. Miller and Regina Burns, two grandchildren: Adrienne R. Goodbee and Shahid A. Burns, and son-in-law, Gregory C. Foskey Sr.
We praise God for our wonderful parents and hope to continue to honor the traditions of faith, hope, love and charity exemplified in the life of our mother, Velma Miller. 

Funeral Services will be held at the Union Missionary Baptist Church at 3 Morton Avenue on Saturday, October 19, 2024 viewing from 9AM-11AM service begins at 11AM.
