Barnetta L. McClaney

Barnetta L. McClaney was born in Bullock County MidWay, Alabama on November 11, 1934 to the late June L. and Darnella Harvey. She departed this life the morning of Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Albany Medical Center with her loved ones by her side.

At an early age, she confessed Christ and joined St. Luke A.M.E Church. Enon Community in MidWay, Alabama. She graduated from Carver High School in Union Springs, Alabama in 1956.

She married her husband Tommy on June 16, 1956. She moved to Albany, NY in 1969 with her husband and children. She was a stay at home mom for many years before entering the workforce. She was employed part time with NYS OGS for 20 years before she retired in 1996.

Barnetta joined Walls Temple A.M.E. Zion Church where she served faithfully on the Deaconess Board.

She was a devoted wife to her late husband Tommy Green McClaney. She was the most loving and caring mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents June L. and Darnella Harvey, her husband Tommy McClaney, her brothers: Tommy Lee Harvey and Napoleon Harvey, her sisters: Mary Nichols, Anna Mae Smith, Katie Bell Ivey and Carrie Harvey (died at birth).

She leaves to cherish her memories eight children: Gwendolyn (Gerald) Thompson of Latham, NY, John (Lula) McClaney of Columbus, GA, Clifford (Josephine) McClaney of Columbus, GA, Steve and Linda McClaney of Albany, NY, Carolyn (Michael) Dennis of Albany, NY, Fredrick and Edrick McClaney of Albany, NY, Step-daughter Loretta Manley of Chicago, IL, Two sisters: Carolyn Baker of Columbus, GA and Leola (Steven) Bates of Montgomery, AL. Two brothers: JL Harvey and Leroy Harvey of Columbus, GA, Eight grandchildren: Rashad Ward, Derrell McClaney, Kasheem Ward, Terry Brown Jr., Gerald Thompson II, Marcus Thompson, Myasia Ward and Christopher McClaney, Two great-grandchildren: Modesty Sage Williams and Nyasia Brown and a host of sisters in law, brothers in law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
