Barbara Nell McDowell-Middleton, age 68, gained her wings. She was called home on July 5, 2022, in Albany, NY.
The youngest of 11 children, she was born on June 24,1954 in Bladenboro, NC to the late James and Francis McDowell. She attended Bladenboro Public Schools until the age of 14 when she relocated to Albany, NY where she completed her high school education at Albany High School.
Barbara was a God-fearing woman who loved to sing the word of God. In the past, she attended Elija Baptist Church and currently an active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the adult choir. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking and hanging out with family, especially Allie, whom she regularly brought to church with her.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents James and Francis McDowell, her husband Wilchard Middleton. Five siblings, Vance Singletary, James McDowell, Samuel McDowell, Ethel Brown, Agnes Albrooks and one step-sister Janice Dye. She leaves to cherish in memory her two children Madesia McDowell of Albany, NY and Nadine McDowell of Erie, PA. Her grandchildren Sahron McDowell, Quanika McDowell, LeMonda Grate, Kalilah McDowell, Gerald Herbert, Gevan Bynoe and Altonmeise McDowell. Great-Grandchildren Sahron McDowell Jr., Joseph Drummond and Aniyah King. She is also survived by four sisters, Joan Thompson and Dr. Janice (Calvin) Smith-Coxum of Fayetteville, NC, Mary (George) Trotter of Bowie, MD, Monttaa (James) McBride of Albany, NY and one brother, Deacon Persell (Mimi) McDowell of Albany, NY. Seven step-siblings, Michael, Andrea, Patricia, Beverly, Shirley, Rose and Nora and host of nieces and nephews.
