Barbara Ann Hill Gailliard (Princess) was born September 16, 1933, to the late George P. Hill and Clementine Stevens Hill. On Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 8:34 AM, God saw His child was ready to rest from her Earthly endeavors, so He wrapped her in His arms and carried her away to her Heavenly home.
Barbara was the oldest of 3 beautiful girls. She was educated in the Albany Public School System, graduating from Albany High School in 1951. As children, Barbara and her sisters began their Christian journey at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Albany, NY, where they could be heard singing in the choir. Over the years, Barbara would go to become a member at Israel AME Church, and finally, Metropolitan New Testament Mission Baptist Church under the late Rev. Ernest E. Drake. She served as a spiritual ambassador for many years as an usher on the Metropolitan Usher Board.
In 1949, Barbara was united in marriage to the late Mr. Roy Gailliard. After graduation, Barbara worked in the healthcare field at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center and Albany Memorial Hospital where she retired from. After retiring, Barbara's love for children lead her to become a part-time staff member at the Arbor Park Daycare Center in Albany.
Princess Barbara had a love for hats, purses, jewelry, and shopping. She especially loved time spent getting her hair and nails done. Barbara was a social butterfly and would spend hours on the phone talking with her family and friends. She truly valued the time she spent sharing stories with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. Barbara could often be found doing a crossword puzzle and reading the daily obituaries. Barbara WAS social media before there was social media. She made sure to keep track of all her families’ birthdays and special events.
Celebrating the life and legacy of Barbara are her children; daughter: Sonja Wright of Albany; sons: Roy Gailliard Jr., of Syracuse, Glenn (Theresa) Gailliard Sr, Kevin Gailliard, Bruce (Yolanda) Wright, and Byron Wright, all of Albany; and daughter-in-law: Annette Gailliard of Albany. She also leaves behind twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Princess Barbara was loved and adored by all.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by her daughter: Pamela Marie Wright; sons, Gerald W. and George A. Gailliard; sisters: Mabel Plowden and Rose Stinney; and brothers-in-law: Clinton Plowden and Charles Stinney.
