Alice Louise (Stewart) Bankston

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Matriarch to our family Alice Louise Stewart Bankston. Alice, age 83, departed this life on September 22, 2025, at The Grand Rehibition and Nursing at Barnwell in Valatie, NY after a long battle fighting ALS. 

Alice Bankston was the daughter of Liliian Stewart and Alphonso Lewis. She was born in Mississippi, but raised in Chicago, Illinois. It was there she met and married Arval Bankston Sr. Not long after, they parked their family of four in Canan, N.Y. Alice got a job at Berkshire Farm Center Services for the Youth where she worked for many years. Later, she transferred to Vanderheyden Campus in Wynantskill, NY and worked as a Night Manager until she retired. She was known for her strong faith as she was a Christian who loved the Lord and believed his word. She was also known for being set in her ways and had a “tell it like it was” personality. It was both these qualities and her Love for her family that made her a very strong and special Woman.

Alice is survived by her daughter Laurie Bankston-Stroud, and her husband Shannon Stroud. Her brothers, Samuel Lewis and his wife Dorothy, Joseph Lewis and his wife Sue, Alonso Lewis and his wife Mattie from Mississippi. Her sisters Alberta Prince and Dorothy Stewart from Chicago. Her grandchildren, Ashiya Stroud, Paige Stroud, Nijianna Deloatch and Nijaquaan Stroud from Troy, NY. Justin and Ashley Bankston from Connecticut. Shamyra Waters, and Sarita Bankston from Vermont. Her Goddaughters Robaire and Rhonda Long, and her oldest and dearest friend Patricia Long. Three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was loved by many. She was one of a kind and she will be deeply missed. 

The Funeral Service for Alice Bankston is scheduled for Wednesday October 1, 2025, at the Bishop Herman Thomas Jr Church of Jesus Christ at 562 Clinton Ave, Albany, N.Y 12206. Calling hours will precede the service, from 10am-11am, and the funeral will commence at 11am. She will be laid to rest next to her son Arvall Bankston Jr. at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY.
